NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The Jennings County Sheriff’s Department has announced increased patrols through December 4. The high visibility patrols will focus on seatbelt usage, speed and intoxicated drivers. The department joins 250 agencies statewide participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative.
Sheriff Gary Driver has assigned 16 deputies to conduct the checkpoints.
Last year in November, seven people were killed, 220 were injured in more than 530 alcohol related crashes. Over the same period, 285 accidents involved unrestrained motorists or passengers that resulted in death to 16 people and injured more than 300 people.
The program is funded by state and federal grants.
