NORTH VERNON, Ind. — Twelve North Vernon families have been moved from their apartments because of fire code violations. The North Vernon fire chief made the decision after finding several violations throughout the building. The violations were verified during an inspection by the state fire marshal on October 31.
Officials were forced to condemn the structure at 7 North Madison Ave. after the owner refused to cooperate and fix the problems.
The city of North Vernon is working with the Red Cross and other organizations to find a place for the families to go.
