INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Cummins employees were hard at work Friday at the newly constructed Cummins Indianapolis Distribution Headquarters. The headquarters, located at New Jersey and Market Streets, right across from City Market Plaza, is set to open in early 2017.
The new facility, which sits on the four acres where Market Square Arena once stood, is still in need of a little beautification. That’s where Cummins employees come in.
On Cummins Indy Distribution Headquarters Employee Planting Day, employees will be planting 4,000 hyacinths and many fall crocus bulbs at the site. Being adjacent to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and taking up a full city block, the new park and plaza design adds an electronica-friendly harvest table, a small amphitheater for area events, and private areas for personal meditation
This area will be a gathering spot for Cummins employees, but it will also be open to the public.
The new headquarters’ location places Cummins as a major presence to the Market East District, and brings Cummins into the lives of residences and new and growing area businesses along this urban corridor.
The landscape, which integrates unique paving design, was inspired by Deborah Berke Partners’ calibrated building façade. While not immediately seen, the new design brings water retention areas that allow for storm water runoff management and green roof elements.
The landscape design was created by the Philadelphia’s LAND COLLECTIVE. The firm’s focus is to emphasize socially-purposeful design strategies.
