COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus officials are taking another step to tighten the abandoned vehicle ordinance. Changes are being proposed to allow the city to declare a vehicle inoperable if it is partially assembled, mechanically nonfunctional, or generally unsafe. The amendment would also require non-running or unused vehicles to be screened from public view through the use of a structure or privacy fence.
Officials say the changes are needed to keep oversized, seasonal use, and non-running vehicles off public property and narrow streets.
City council members approved the four amendments and will conduct a second reading on Tuesday, December 6.
