FRANKLIN, Ind. — A traffic stop netted two arrests for drugs on Tuesday. Around 1:37 p.m., a Johnson’s County Sheriff’s deputy observed a red Pontiac ignore a red light as it was traveling southbound on S.R. 37 at Fairview Road. The vehicle was then seen turning down a dead-end street.
Upon pulling over the vehicle, the deputy noticed suspicious activity by a backseat passenger. The driver was unable to produce his driver’s license or his vehicle registration, and did not have any official form of identification. It was determined that the driver was operating the car even though he had a suspended driver’s license.
The driver was eventually identified as Billy Cook, 36, and the two passengers were identified as Jason Mitchell, 30, and Joseph Mitchell, 27. Due to the suspicious behavior of everyone in the car, a K9 officer was summoned. The deputies were alerted to the evidence of narcotics by the police dog.
During a search, deputies discovered that Cook was concealing two hypodermic needles, and a spoon with white plastic and black and brown residue, in one of his socks. As law enforcement searched further, another sock was found under the dashboard. It contained another spoon and two more hypodermic needles. A hypodermic needle was also discovered in the back-seat panel.
Billy Cook and Jason Mitchell were both placed under arrest and transported to the Johnson County Jail. Mitchell was remanded for Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device. Cook was arrested for Possession of a Legend Drug Injection Device and Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction.
