INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Labor says non-fatal occupational injuries tied a historic low in 2015. The rate of 3.8 injuries per 100 full-time workers matches the mark set in 2013. It’s the fourth consecutive year the rate has been at or below 4.0 and the lowest since the report debuted in 1992.
“The foundation of Indiana’s success in safety and health is based on cooperative relationships with Hoosier employers,” said Rick Ruble, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Labor. “These historic low rates demonstrate the continued dedication of employers, employees, IOSHA enforcement and INSafe programs, organized labor, trade associations, and safety councils to the safety of Hoosiers in the workplace.”
The construction industry recorded an 18 percent decline, and manufacturing had a four percent drop.
Officials are especially pleased with the decrease because the labor participation rate is at its highest since 2000, and unemployment numbers are at historic lows.
