COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Greenwood woman has been charged with neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury in connection with the treatment of her grandmother.
Greenwood police began an investigation after being alerted by the staff of Community South Hospital’s emergency room staff. Workers told police an 85-year-old female was suffering from extreme dehydration, significant bed sores, and had not eaten in a very long time. The woman had very low blood pressure and was in and out of consciousness.
The woman’s caretaker, Theresa Wilson, her granddaughter, told police she knew about the sores and had been treating them for the last three months with antibiotic cream and antiseptic solution. She also told police that due to her work schedule it was very difficult to care for the victim. The victim has been living with Wilson for the last 20 years.
No court date has been set. If convicted Wilson could serve up to 16 years in prison.
