COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus area law enforcement officers ended a lengthy standoff with James Bowling, 40. At around 7 p.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Breckenridge Drive after a neighbor reported being threatened by the suspect.
Columbus police say the neighbor reported Bowling had been beating on his door and threatening him, and that he believed Bowling had previously let the air out of one of his vehicle tires.
Officers found Bowling at the scene and attempted to address him. Bowling fled on foot and went into his residence. While inside, police report that Bowling said he had explosives and threatened to blow his house up. He also threatened to shoot police.
After hours of negotiations with crisis negotiators, Bowling surrendered peacefully. Bowling was charged with resisting law enforcement and taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.
