LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A downturn in demand for commercial steering systems has resulted in 65 permanent layoffs at a Lafayette automotive assembly plant. Michigan-based TRW says there is very little evidence to suggest demand for the product will return in the near future. The layoffs will be effective January 15, 2017.
The employees will be eligible for assistance through the Trade Adjustment Assistance program. The program includes help for displaced workers to find suitable employment and get help with health insurance premium costs.
