INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Kroger and their partner, Miller Poultry, will donate 6,500 pounds of meat to Gleaners Food bank.
One in five children in Indiana live in a household that struggles to afford enough food for the family. For the last five years that figure has increased slightly each year.
Miller Poultry is a family-owned operation based in northern Indiana. The company raises chickens on mostly Amish farms in naturally ventilated, curtain-sided houses, and the chickens are free to roam on an open floor. The birds are fed vegetables and are not given any antibiotics.
Gleaners Food Bank was founded in 1980 by a group of concerned citizens who believed no Hoosier should suffer from hunger or malnutrition. Food is distributed through 250 network agencies.
