COLUMBUS, Ind. — United States Senator Joe Donnelly made a Tuesday afternoon visit to Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers and Major Chris Lane. Donnelly talked about the war on heroin and meth in Bartholomew County, plus the need for more treatment options.
Another major topic of discussion was the decision to place a Bartholomew County deputy in Indianapolis to work directly with the Drug Enforcement Agency. Rising jail populations due to mental health issues and addiction were also discussed.
As a way to address budget problems, the group talked about ways to relax laws regarding asset forfeiture. Many agencies could benefit in tough times by having more access to assets seized during investigations.
“Senator Donnelly is a champion for Public Safety and he is extremely supportive of our Sheriff’s office,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers. “The Senator, or members of his staff, are frequent visitors to BCSO and we certainly appreciate this close working relationship,” added Myers.
