SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Shelbyville police have arrested a man in connection with a series of downtown Shelbyville burglaries. Anthony Wayne Murphy, 46, of Shelbyville, is accused of a burglary at the Original Pizza Den on Christmas morning around 3 a.m.
Police located Murphy around 3:30 a.m., near the scene of the Christmas day robbery, and realized he matched the description of a subject seen on video surveillance during some of the previous burglaries. Murphy was detained and questioned, and during the interview, police found a cash register and receipts from the Original Pizza Den in a nearby dumpster. When officers went to Murphy’s apartment, they found cash, coins and a 50-inch TV that had been stolen from Bishopp’s Appliances earlier this month.
After securing a search warrant, police found numerous other stolen items in Murphy’s apartment. Over the last several weeks downtown businesses have reported nearly a dozen burglaries. Murphy was arrested on multiple charges in connection to the burglaries, plus other unrelated drug charges.
