COLUMBUS, Ind. — A 51-year-old Columbus grandmother was arrested for child neglect at the Commons Mall playground on Saturday around 4:40 p.m.
Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus police public relations officer, says the woman’s two-year-old grandson was found wandering around the play area covered in feces. Other adults in the area noticed the unattended child and began to look for the child’s parents. They called police when the parents could not be located. The other parents cleaned-up the child while waiting for police to arrive. The child was taken to the Columbus Police Department and held for the Indiana Department of Children’s Services.
Around 5:30 p.m., Brenda Fox, 51, arrived at the police station and told police she was at the playground, but never saw police or anyone looking for a parent of a child. As the interview with Fox continued, police determined she was under the influence of narcotics.
Fox has been charged with felony neglect of a dependent. The child was turned over to the parents.
