LYONS, Ind. — The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is offering a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the shooting of a whooping crane in southwest Indiana.
The 5-year-old federally endangered bird was found January 3, in Greene County along State Road 67 near the Goose Pond State Fish and Wildlife Area. Conservation officers have evidence to suggest a high-powered rifle was used. Since 2009, five whooping cranes have been shot in Indiana, the most in any state in the country. DNR officials believe there are only about 120 whooping Ccanes in the United States.
Information about this crime may be called-in to 812-837-9536, or 800-TIP-IDNR.
