COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Columbus man was jailed after making a false report of an active shooter in a convenience store in the 1600 block of Central Avenue around 1 a.m. Sunday.
Officers entered the store, but found no evidence of a shooting. They came into contact with Joshua Stam, 26, who was holding his phone. While being questioned, Stam dropped a large hunting knife that was in his pocket. When police attempted to detain Stam, he became combative and told them they were not police. Stam hit one officer in the head and tried to bite another before being tased.
Stam was taken to Columbus Regional Health for treatment, and then transported to Bartholomew County Jail and charged with public intoxication, possession of a syringe, battery on a law enforcement officer, false reporting and resisting law enforcement.
