COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters quickly doused an attic fire in the 200 block of North Mapleton Street on Monday.
Neighbors alerted the residents and called 9-1-1. The occupants were able to escape without injury. The firefighters gained entry to the home from the outside attic access, located the origin of the flames and extinguished the fire. Firefighters also put out hot embers that were found in the insulation. To ensure the fire was completely extinguished firefighters removed the insulation from the area.
After speaking with the residents and the initial inspection of the house, investigators believe electrical issues may have been the cause of the blaze. Damage was estimated at $2,500.
