COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus firefighters are providing water rescue training to the current C-4 Law Enforcement students.
On Thursday, February 9, firefighters will begin teaching about 40 students the dangers of water rescue, specifically fast moving water. Students will also learn water rescue methodology, an introduction to hydrology and a familiarization with rescue equipment.
The trainers will take the students to the Columbus East High School pool for practical application on Friday, February 10. This phase includes a series of shore and water based rescue scenarios. The students will be using actual rescue equipment under the supervision of the firefighters.
In addition to the technical training, students will learn how a water rescue scene works and observe how multiple agencies respond and communicate during an emergency situation.
