FRANKLIN, Ind. — Franklin Community Schools recently received a $49,999 planning grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Comprehensive Counseling Initiative for Indiana K-12 Students. The initiative is designed to insure students are emotionally healthy, realize academic success, graduate from high school, obtain post-secondary credentials and find meaningful employment.
“This is a great opportunity for our school counselors to build a robust K-12 counseling program focusing on academic services, social and emotional services, and college and career ready services,” Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, Deb Brown Nally said. “Our ultimate goal is to grow healthy kids, who by the time they graduate from Franklin Schools are college, career, and life ready.”
Officials will use the grant to send 14 counselors to the Evidence-Based School Counseling Conference, which offers innovative ideas from around the country and strategic processes for identifying strengths and weaknesses in the program. The event wraps up with a retreat where attendees will draft their own counseling plan.
