COLUMBUS, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College has announced a partnership with the Gene Hass Foundation to fund a scholarship for advanced manufacturing students. The program was awarded $29,500.
Hass Factory Outlet director of education, Toni Neary says, “Local manufacturers need skilled machinists in order to keep manufacturing here at home, which is a personal mission for Gene Hass and the Gene Hass Foundation.”
Ivy Tech has initiated a series of manufacturing roundtables to work with industry partners to identify and meet employment needs. The school has also opened the Advanced Manufacturing and Technology Center in Lawrenceburg. Advanced manufacturing makes up 36 percent of the local employment base and up to 50 percent of the current workforce is expected to retire over the next five to seven years.
Ivy Tech interim chancellor, Katie Mote says, “The meaningful support of the Gene Hass Foundation will provide our students with access to valuable skills training that will prepare them for in-demand, well paying positions and help them succeed in their educational and career goals.”
