NORTH VERNON, Ind. — A Columbus man was injured in a Monday morning crash at the intersection of State Road 7 and State Road 750.
When North Vernon police arrived at the scene around 10:41 a.m., they found a car driven by William Thompkins, 77, of Columbus, had collided with a semi-truck driven by Randy Perkinson, 53, of North Vernon.
Witnesses told police Thompkins ran a red light and drove into the side of the trailer. Thompkins became stuck under the trailer and was dragged for several feet. Before police arrived, other motorists stopped to assist and fight a fire that had developed.
Thompkins was taken to an Indianapolis hospital after being extricated from the wreckage. His condition is not known.
