COLUMBUS, Ind. — An Edinburgh man is facing several charges after a disturbance in Columbus early Wednesday afternoon.
Police observed a domestic disturbance happening inside a vehicle near 10th Street and Central Avenue around 12:10 p.m. When officers stopped the vehicle, Angelito Mercado, 39, exited and immediately became belligerent. After refusing to obey voice commands from officers, Mercado was placed in handcuffs. During the investigation, police determined Mercado had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
While being processed at the scene Mercado told police he was having a medical emergency. He was first taken to Columbus Regional Health for treatment and then transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. Mercado has been charged with resisting law enforcement, domestic battery, criminal confinement, disorderly conduct, driving while suspended, and an outstanding Bartholomew County warrant.
