COLUMBUS, Ind. — A 28-year-old Columbus man is in jail after leading police on a 90-minute pursuit through three counties. The suspect had his girlfriend and an eight-month-old child in the car during the chase.
The ordeal began at Eighth and Maple Streets in Columbus when police attempted to pull-over Kyle Pacek for driving a car without a rear bumper. When they ran Pacek’s plate number it was determined he had two outstanding Bartholomew County warrants.
The pursuit began at a low speed on the north side of Columbus. Pacek eventually increased his speed, leading police out of Columbus and into Decatur County. The chase ultimately advanced into northern Jennings County at speeds of over 80 mph. Pacek was able to dodge several tire deflation devices along the way. After Pacek’s car was rear ended inadvertently by a Jennings County deputy, he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was quickly apprehended by an Indiana State trooper. The female passenger was treated for a facial injury and the infant was not injured.
Pacek has been charged with two outstanding warrants, neglect of a dependent, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle causing bodily injury, resisting law enforcement on foot, criminal recklessness and criminal confinement.
