COLUMBUS, Ind. — Spring break travelers will notice changes at the Indiana/Kentucky border this year. All three bridges are now part of the Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridge Project and have electronic tolling systems installed. The bridges include the I-65 bridges connecting downtown Louisville and southern Indiana, the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge, the John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge, and the Lewis and Clark Bridge connecting the Gene Snyder Freeway in Prospect, Kentucky.
In order to get the cheapest toll rates motorists should set up a RiverLink account. It is $2 to cross a tolled bridge in a passenger car with a prepaid account and transponder, and $4 without. Toll rates range from $2 to $12 depending on the size of the vehicle. Transponders cost $15 each. Motorists without accounts will receive invoices by mail and pay higher rates. Tolls can be paid online, over the phone, in person or by mail. Unpaid tolls can lead to fines or restrictions on the vehicle registration.
E-ZPass transponders from Illinois and the Indiana Toll Road are compatible with the RiverLink system.
