INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Indiana Senate has voted to exempt long-serving law enforcement officers from lifetime handgun permit fees. The measure was co-authored by Sean Eberhart from Shelbyville.
“We appreciate the service, dedication and sacrifice these brave men and women have given to keep our communities safe,” Eberhart said. “We can show our gratitude and appreciation for those who put their lives on the line for at least 20 years by giving them a lifetime handgun permit for free.”
House Bill 1250 will exempt police officers, sheriffs, deputies and federal law enforcement officers from lifetime permit fees after 20 years of service. The measure would apply to all officers, retired or not.
