COLUMBUS, Ind. – Numerous 9-1-1 calls reporting a possible structure fire at Papa John’s Pizza prompted a full response from the Columbus Fire Department on Wednesday. Capt. Mike Wilson says firefighters were dispatched to Eastbrook Plaza just after 11:30 a.m.
Engine Co. 4 was the first unit to arrive on the scene and reported smoke coming from the roof. As additional stations arrived, electrical arcing was witnessed from the area of the roof. Emergency crews witnessed the electrical service lines separate from a transformer located in the alley behind the business.
Capt. Wilson said command ordered two ladder companies to access the roof to investigate the cause of the smoke. Once gaining access, firefighters reported that a small section of the rubber membrane roof covering was on fire and it was extinguished.
No one was injured and damage estimates are not available at this time.
