COLUMBUS, Ind. – Cummins confirmed on Friday that layoffs are underway after it announced late in 2019 that they were expected to come in early 2020. The company stated last year that they were planning to effectively manage through a cyclical downturn expected this year. The diesel giant also announced that it was preparing to reduce its global workforce by about 2,000 employees.
Cummins had said at the time that it would begin layoffs during the first quarter of 2020, and Katie Zarich with Cummins Communications has confirmed that the process has already started. Reductions are expected to be completed before the end of March.
Spokespeople for Cummins did not say how many local workers might be laid off due to the job cuts.
