COLUMBUS, Ind. – Thursday was the last day to request an application to vote-by-mail and it turned out to be a record-setting day at the Bartholomew County Clerk’s Office. Clerk Jay Phelps said his staff sent out the most absentee ballots in a single day in the history of elections in Bartholomew County at 664 ballots. They also received another 260 voted ballots for the Primary Election.
Last night Phelps said, “Even though we are working well into the night to get them all completed, I couldn’t be more proud to have such a great staff that has sacrificed many nights to be here so we can have a safe, secure, and smooth election. We take our jobs very seriously, and we want everyone who wants to vote to be able to.”
The clerk’s office has sent out 8,802 absentee ballots and gotten back 5,071 voted ballots. The record breaking vote-by-mail numbers point to a high overall turnout.
