COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Bartholomew County man was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after he crashed his car into a culvert in a road construction zone. The Columbus Police Department responded to the area of Taylor Road and 31st Street shortly after 4 a.m. in regards to the crash.
Upon arrival, officers reportedly observed a car stuck in a construction gravel area. They noted the driver of the car, Trevor Jessup, 30, of Columbus, had driven beyond several “road closed” signs and had also struck a culvert.
When police spoke with him, they said his balance seemed unsteady and his speech slurred. After allegedly failing multiple field sobriety tests, the suspect was transported to Columbus Regional Health for a blood test and later arrested. Jessup is facing a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
