EDINBURGH, Ind. – Edinburgh Fire and Rescue, the German Township Volunteer Fire Department (GTVFD), and four other area fire departments responded to a fire early Saturday morning at an apartment building, in the 100 block of West Thompson Street, in Edinburgh.
When firefighters arrived, the front of the structure was already engulfed in flames. After getting the blaze under control, rescue crews went inside and found a deceased man. His name has not yet been released.
There were three apartments in the building, one of which did not have any tenants. The occupants of the other apartment got out safely.
GTVFD says fire units were on the scene for several hours. No other injuries were reported and no damage estimates to the property have been given. The fire is still under investigation.
