COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) apprehended two local men Tuesday night after receiving a report of a theft in progress. CPD responded to the 100 block of South Mapleton Street, at around 11:30 p.m., in regards to a call about two men possibly attempting to steal a catalytic converter from a van.
When officers arrived, they say that one of the suspects, later identified as Dandy Knight, 52, fled on foot with a portable saw. The other man, Anthony Roberts, 27, was taken into custody at the scene by police.
With the assistance of a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office canine, officers were able to locate Knight at a nearby home and he was also arrested. During the course of the investigation, law enforcement found the catalytic converter that was supposedly removed from the van.
Knight is facing charges of theft and resisting law enforcement. Roberts was booked for theft.
