COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Republican caucus of Precinct Committeepersons unanimously elected Shari Lentz on Saturday to replace Jay Phelps as Bartholomew County Clerk. Lentz will serve the remainder of Phelps’ term after he resigned to accept a position working at the office of the Indiana Secretary of State.
Bartholomew County Superior Court 2 Judge Jon Rohde was in attendance at the proceedings and swore Lentz into office after she was chosen.
“I feel very blessed to be in this position because I have absolutely loved my work in the elections department that started over 13 years ago when I began recruiting poll workers,” Lentz stated during her acceptance speech. “We have a great group of people who make up the staff of our office. It is my hope to carry on a great working environment and to serve the residents of Bartholomew County well.”
Phelps said he was excited to endorse Lentz as the new Clerk and said, “Shari is well respected throughout Indiana by voter registration officials and election administrators across the state. In fact, her peers selected her as the 2021 President of the Indiana Voter Registration Association.”
