COLUMBUS, Ind. – Thrive Alliance and the Bartholomew County Public Library (BCPL) are making the community more dementia-friendly by offering information sessions to anyone interested in becoming a “Dementia Friend.”
During the one-hour workshop led by Sandy Allman, a trained Dementia Champion representing Dementia Friends Indiana, attendees will learn about the stigma associated with dementia and how to create community environments that are welcoming to those living with this disease. Those taking part in the discussion will earn certification as “Dementia Friends.”
Participants will learn about resources available through BCPL for those caring for a loved one with dementia, including Memory Kits that offer many hours of entertainment activity, and Dial-A-Story, a phone number to call to listen to readings.
The live session is on June 18, at 9 a.m., at the library. A virtual session is set for June 25, at 3 p.m.
