COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Wednesday at 11:20 a.m., in reference to vandalism that occurred at Anderson Falls. Several areas of the park had been damaged including bathrooms, trees, the parking lot, and landscaping rocks.
The Bartholomew County Parks Department has been investing a lot of time toward improving Anderson Falls. The restrooms were close to reopening after being shut down a few years ago. However, vandals struck sometime early this week overturning portable restroom facilities and defacing multiple areas of the park with graffiti.
“This is an act of pure meanness,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers. “This is a crime that affects all of us and those responsible for this damage need to be held accountable.”
Local businessman Chuck Wells, a member of the County Park Board, said, “We are not going to let vandals stop us from making our community great.” Wells is personally offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the damages.
“At this time, although this might have occurred on the same night that the old one-room schoolhouse was burned, there is no way to connect the two incidents,” said BCSO Major Chris Lane.
If you have any information on either event, no matter how seemingly insignificant, contact the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office. Anonymous calls can be made to the tipline at 812-379-1712.
