SEYMOUR, Ind. – A child abuse investigation by the Seymour Police Department (SPD) that began last week, ended Thursday with the arrest of a Jackson County man.
Police received a preliminary report on December 1 from the Indiana Department of Child Services stating that a juvenile female had been sexually assaulted by a male for approximately six to seven years. The sexual assaults began when both were juveniles and continued until the male was nineteen years of age. The victim was still a juvenile when the alleged sexual assaults stopped.
On Wednesday of this week, investigators requested a forensic interview be conducted with the girl at the Child Advocacy Center, Susie’s Place, in Bloomington.
The suspect, Garrett M. Minton, 20 of Seymour, was interviewed by SPD on Thursday and he allegedly admitted to sexually assaulting the victim over the time period mentioned.
Minto was arrested, jailed, and charged with rape, child molestation, and criminal confinement.
