COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers says that he would like to become the mayor of the City of Columbus. He made the announcement Wednesday night in the upper room at Zaharakos Ice Cream Parlor and Museum.
Myers, who will be succeeded by Chris Lane as sheriff, will be a candidate in the 2023 election cycle and hopes to follow Mayor Jim Lienhoop as the leader of the city. Lienhoop announced earlier on Wednesday that he would not seek re-election for a third term.
Myers completes his second term as sheriff on December 31 of this year.
