CARROL COUNTY – Carrol County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland is advocating for the probable cause affidavit relating to the arrest of Richard Allen to remain sealed after a judge heard arguments on the matter Tuesday. Special Judge Fran Gull said that she’ll release an order soon reflecting her decision.
During the hearing, McLeland said that his office has reason to believe that Allen is not the only person who was involved in the killings of two Delphi teenagers in 2017. The probable cause affidavit remaining sealed, he argued, would help protect the integrity of the case.
“As I stated in court yesterday, we strongly believe the evidence shows Richard Allen was involved in the murder of Libby and Abby. Because the investigation is ongoing and given the intense public interest in this case, we think it would be best if the documents remain sealed,” McLeland said in a statement. “Regardless of the ruling, we believe we have a very solid case against Mr. Allen and look forward to making our argument in trial.”
