COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Emergency Management (BCEM) says the National Weather Service now states the Winter Storm Warning for Columbus and south-central Indiana is active until Friday at 7 p.m.
Temperatures are dangerously cold and gusty winds are resulting in blowing and drifting snow. These conditions will persist into Saturday.
Plan on slippery road conditions. Widespread blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The dangerously cold wind chills can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Extreme wind chills of -25 to -35 will be common all day Friday. Wind chills as low as -40 are possible.
BCEM advises that if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for Indiana can be obtained by calling 1-800-261-7623.
