SCIPIO, Ind. – The Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) conducted a traffic stop in Geneva Township for a traffic infraction last week resulting in six drug-related arrests.
K-9 Axel conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle and gave a positive alert to the presence of narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted in which deputies allegedly located suspected methamphetamine in the center console area of the vehicle. The driver, Jasper Barkley, 29, of Vernon, and a male passenger, Zacary McKinney, 23, of North Vernon, were arrested.
Meth was also supposedly found on McKinney’s person after he was inside the Jennings County Jail.
Further investigation led JCSO to be granted a search warrant for a Geneva Township residence. Four subjects were found inside and detained. K-9 Axel was deployed and supposedly located meth, scales, and packaging materials. Deputies say they also discovered other drug items and syringes.
Barkley, who was on probation, was charged with possession of meth and an outstanding warrant. McKinney was booked for possession of meth and possession of meth within a penal facility. Sheila Keller, 41, of North Vernon, was jailed for dealing methamphetamine, possession of meth, a legend drug violation, possession of a narcotic drug, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of paraphernalia. Austin Locke, 22, of North Vernon, and Kevin Crowell, 23, of North Vernon, were both charged with maintaining a common nuisance.
