COLUMBUS, Ind. – A former state representative who spent over a decade in the Indiana General Assembly has filed to run for mayor of the City of Columbus.
Milo Smith (R) served in the Indiana General Assembly representing District 59 from 2006 to 2018. At that time, he decided to not seek reelection. In his announcement on Wednesday morning, Smith noted his experience as a small business owner and said he would promote fiscal responsibility with taxpayer money.
“As your State Representative I was always available for taxpayers when they needed assistance navigating through the bureaucracy of government,” Smith said. “I also received several legislative awards, but none more important than making certain we keep our promises to Hoosier veterans.”
Smith’s priorities include limiting government, fostering a pro-business environment, and public safety. He also said would cut regulations and advocate for civility.
“If elected, I will continue to listen to all residents of Columbus while making it easier for each of you to get a prompt response from the appropriate person in city government,” Smith stated.
Executive Director of Administration and Community Development for the city Mary Ferdon (R) and former Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers (R) have also announced their candidacies.
