COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has undergone staffing changes with the retirement of Capt. David Steinkoenig, who is taking a job in the private sector.
Replacing Capt. Steinkoenig as Jail Commander is Lt. Justin Arnholt who will be promoted to captain. Arnholt was hired at BCSO in 1997 as a corrections officer. He was promoted to merit deputy in 2003 and graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy shortly thereafter. Capt. Arnholt has also held the positions of patrol sergeant and lieutenant within the Uniform Division.
Sgt. Jason Williams will be a lieutenant within the Uniform Division. Lt. Williams started his career in 1999 as a corrections officer at the Bartholomew County Jail. He then worked for the Hope Police Department for three years before being hired back by BCSO as a merit deputy in 2003. Lt. Williams, an Indiana Law Enforcement Academy graduate, has previously held the ranks/positions of field training officer, detective, and sergeant.
Deputy Dustin Newland has been advanced to the rank of sergeant within the Uniform Division. He graduated from the Indiana University Police Academy in 2016 and was hired at BCSO in 2017. Sgt. Newland was previously a field training officer and a member of the Intelligence-Led Policing Unit. He is a member of the Bartholomew County Water Rescue Team and an accident deconstructionist.
Deputy Dane Duke has been promoted to sergeant within the Uniform Division, however, his duties will center around being the public information officer. He was hired at BCSO after graduating from the Indiana University Police Academy in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and political science. Sgt. Duke has been a field training officer and a detective. He is a member of SWAT, the water rescue team, and the honor guard.
