INDIANAPOLIS – The Columbus Learning Center (CLC) is set to receive more than $10 million from the state’s next two-year budget to continue its operations.
State Rep. Ryan Lauer (R-Columbus) said the money will pay off CLC’s debts and allow for a 10-year extension of the sublease, which was expected to end in 2025. Lauer originally crafted the legislation to provide funding and extend the lease, but the language was amended into a budget bill, House Enrolled Act 1001.
“This center has been a home for local Hoosiers to learn and grow for over two decades,” Lauer said. “Through this investment, we can ensure the campus still has a home here while providing a way to invest in the future.”
The 43,000-square-foot campus is home to more than 4,000 students and offers work-based learning opportunities, including certificates, degrees, and training in advanced manufacturing and other technology-related fields.
State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) said the CLC helps provides invaluable support to Columbus’ economy and workforce pipeline. According to the Community Education Coalition, more than 80% of graduates stay and work in Bartholomew County after school.
