COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Columbus Police Department (CPD) said two people are in custody after a shooting in Lincoln Park at around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday night. CPD’s spokesman Lt. Matt Harris said two juveniles and two adults were injured in the shooting.
Three of the four wounded victims were eventually transported to Indianapolis hospitals for medical treatment. The fourth victim received treatment at Columbus Regional Health (CRH).
Police received information about a vehicle and its occupants suspected to be involved in the shooting and began searching, according to CPD. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office later spotted the car, a traffic stop was conducted, and Alex Parker, 18, of Columbus, was taken into custody.
Law enforcement then received information about a second person involved, Edmarius Oats, 18, of Columbus. He was apprehended outside a home in the 3400 block of Old Field Lane around 12:45 a.m. by CPD Swat Team members.
Both Oats and Parker were transported to Bartholomew County Jail. Oats faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon. Parker faces preliminary charges of aggravated battery, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and assisting a criminal.
Additional charges are possible in this ongoing investigation, according to CPD.
