COLUMBUS, Ind. – The United States Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) “One Pill Can Kill” campaign visited Columbus this week for the purpose of bringing awareness to the problem of fentanyl-laced fake prescription pills.
According to the DEA, in 2022. six out of 10 fentanyl-laced prescription pills contained a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl. This epidemic continues to affect Bartholomew County and the nation as a whole with opioids being involved in over 68,000 deaths in 2020 nationally.
Last year, a record for overdose deaths in Bartholomew County was set at 39, however so far this year there’s been a dramatic decrease. Local law enforcement attributes the drop to educational campaigns such as this and the work of the Joint Narcotics Enforcement Team.
