COLUMBUS, Ind. – While on patrol, a Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputy observed a male and female in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn on North U.S. 31, early Wednesday at around 3:50 a.m.
Having had previous interactions with the male, the deputy recognized him as Phillip Cooper, 50, of Columbus, and knew him to be violating a court-issued protective order of being in the presence of the female.
The suspect was placed under arrest for violating the protective order. He later consented to the search of his hotel room where BCSO allegedly found about 133 grams of methamphetamine and other narcotics.
Cooper was booked into the Bartholomew County Jail on the charges of Violation of Protective Order (Level 6 Felony), Dealing in Meth (Level 2 Felony), Possession of Meth (Level 3 Felony), Possession of Syringe (Level 6 Felony), Possession of Marijuana (Misdemeanor), and Maintaining a Common Nuisance (Level 6 Felony). Cooper remains in custody on a 48-hour hold.
