SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. – The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched Monday afternoon to a two-vehicle crash in the 10000 block of South State Road 9, near Flat Rock. A tractor-trailer had crashed head-on with a Jeep Liberty.
The truck, operated by Gary Jaquess, 65, of Columbus, was northbound on State Road 9 and collided head-on with the southbound Jeep, driven by Johnathan May, 23, of Shelbyville. Witnesses told law enforcement that the Jeep had crossed the center line. It is not know why.
May was pronounced dead at the scene. Jaquess and a passenger in the Jeep were transported by ambulance to an Indianapolis hospital.
The investigation is ongoing by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
