NORTH VERNON, Ind. – A North Vernon man was arrested early Sunday when deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) were dispatched at 2 a.m. to a residence in the 1500 Block of East County Road 150S.
A male subject, later identified as Jonathan Skaggs, 27, had entered the house, made himself some food, and then went into the bedroom of a female resident. Skaggs allegedly chased the female through the home.
The male homeowner was able to retrieve a firearm and hold the suspect at gunpoint until deputies arrived. The man was taken into custody without further incident.
Skaggs reportedly told JCSO that he had tried to break into several houses but this was the first residence with an unlocked door.
The suspect was remanded to the Jennings County Jail where he remains incarcerated on the preliminary charges of Burglary and Residential Entry.
Chief Deputy Cody Low stated, “This was a scary incident for a local homeowner that could have had a much more tragic ending. We want to strongly advise residents to make sure that they lock their homes.”
