LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. – Early Saturday morning, an officer-involved shooting occurred at the Hollywood Casino Hotel in Lawrenceburg. Detectives with the Indiana State Police are on scene, investigating the incident. The shooting left one man deceased.
The initial investigation indicates that shortly before 1 a.m., a disturbance was reported on the fourth floor of the hotel. The preliminary information reported to the police was that an adult male was threatening and pursuing another person with a knife.
Three officers from the Lawrenceburg Police Department soon arrived on the scene and learned that the man had begun firing a gun. Upon arrival, the officers located the man in the hallway and gave commands to drop the handgun that he was holding. The suspect allegedly began shooting and officers returned fire. The suspect was struck at least once by officers. None of the law enforcement officers were injured.
The suspect died at the scene as a result of the injuries sustained, and his identity is being withheld pending proper identification being made by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office and notification of the next of kin.
One victim sustained minor injuries after the suspect confronted him with a knife before police arrived. It is believed that the victim did not know the suspect. After the shooting, officers checked the welfare of the other patrons in the hotel at the time of the incident and worked with hotel staff to move guests out of the affected area. No other injuries were reported.
