BURLINGAME, Calif. – MoneyGeek, a personal finance website, recently had researchers analyze last year’s FBI crime data of more than 1,000 small towns and cities where the population is between 30,000 and 100,000. And, the results are in.
Columbus, Indiana, is this year’s safest small town in America. The website cites a low property crime rate and a low violent crime rate in its ranking.
MoneyGeek used research by University of Miami and University of Colorado professors to compute the “cost of crime” in each town. The “cost of crime” includes direct losses suffered by victims, medical care costs, property loss, and the price of putting a suspect on trial.
When all the calculations were finished, Columbus was named the safest small city in the country.
Another Indiana small town, Zionsville, also made the top 20 list at #4. See the complete list, here.
