EDINBURGH, Ind. – The Edinburgh Police Department (EPD) responded Tuesday to a report that a suspicious person in a black SUV was taking pictures of a residence in the 500 block of East Park Drive, in Edinburgh.
Officers interviewed the driver, 52-year-old James Jones of Mooresville, who stated that he was taking pictures of roof repairs for an insurance company. The suspect advised the patrolman, and later Chief Doyne Little, that he was a member of the IU Health Police force.
The IU Health Police Department told EPD that Jones never was a law enforcement officer for their department. However, they verified he had formerly been a security officer for the hospital.
Jones was arrested for Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer and taken to Johnson County Jail.
After inventorying his vehicle, police allegedly located two large vehicle decals with “Enforcement Officer” on them, plus a loaded handgun.
Chief Little also verified with the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy that Jones has never been a certified police officer in Indiana.
