VERNON, Ind – The Town of Vernon, founded in 1815, still governs according to its Town Charter of the 1800s and operates a little differently than any other town in the State. On the first Monday in March, in odd-numbered years, Vernon holds its election.
Last week, the town elected three incumbent council members: John Post, Amber Fields, and Jeff Walker. Each position was unopposed. Officials say this Council brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and has a great vision for Vernon. They are said to be true teammates with a unified vision for the common good of Vernon.
Mary Jo Bender will return as the Town’s Clerk/Treasurer.
The election resulted in a new Mayor. Brad Bender, who also ran unopposed, has been deeply involved in recent town projects and improvements and will lead Vernon’s progress. Outgoing Mayor, Dr. Marshall Zamora will continue as a grant manager of three different projects in their final weeks of completion. He plans to support this newly elected group in the efforts to improve Vernon.
The new administration will be sworn in on March 13 at the monthly town meeting.
